Sunan Ibn Majah 3912 (Book 35, Hadith 20) #33266
Dreams and Satan's Play

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ advised not to tell people about dreams that involve being played with by Satan.

It was narrated that Jabir said: "A man came to the Prophet when he was delivering a sermon and said: 'O Messenger of Allah! Last night in my dream I saw my neck being struck and my head fell off, and I chased it, picked it up and put it back.’ The Messenger of Allah said: 'If Satan plays with any one of you in his dreams, he should not tell people about it.’"

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek guidance from Allah when making decisions or interpreting our dreams.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is narrated by Jabir, who was a companion of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). In this hadith, a man came to the Prophet and told him about a dream he had where his neck was struck and his head fell off. He then chased it, picked it up and put it back. The Prophet advised him not to tell people about such dreams as they may have been caused by Satan playing with him in his dream. This hadith teaches us that we should be careful when talking about our dreams as some of them may have been caused by evil forces like Satan. We should also remember that Allah is the only one who knows what will happen in the future, so we should always seek His guidance when making decisions or interpreting our dreams.
