Sunan Ibn Majah 3759 (Book 33, Hadith 103) #33113
The Dangers of Poetry

SUMMARY: Filling one's mind with poetry is worse than filling one's stomach with pus.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah said: "If a man were to fill his stomach completely with pus until it destroyed him, that would be better for him than filling (his mind) with poetry".

QUICK LESSONS:
Fill your mind only things that are beneficial and pleasing to Allah .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith warns us about the dangers of filling our minds with poetry. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that it would be better for a person to fill their stomach completely with pus until it destroyed them, than to fill their mind with poetry. This hadith teaches us that we should be careful about what we allow ourselves to think and ponder over, as this can have a great effect on our lives and our faith. We should strive to fill our minds only with things that are beneficial and pleasing to Allah, such as knowledge, wisdom, and remembrance of Him. We should also avoid anything which could lead us astray or cause us harm in any way.
