Kindness and Respect for Parents

SUMMARY: Allah commands us to be kind and respectful to our parents.

Miqdam bin Ma'dikarib, may Allah be pleased with them, narrated that: Allah's Messenger said: "Allah enjoins you to treat your mother's kindly"-three times- "Allah enjoins you to treat your fathers kindly, Allah enjoins you to treat the closest and the next closest kindly".
حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ بَحِيرِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ، عَنِ الْمِقْدَامِ بْنِ مَعْدِيكَرِبَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ ـ قَالَ ‏ "‏ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُوصِيكُمْ بِأُمَّهَاتِكُمْ - ثَلاَثًا - إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُوصِيكُمْ بِآبَائِكُمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُوصِيكُمْ بِالأَقْرَبِ فَالأَقْرَبِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of being kind and respectful to our parents. It was narrated by Miqdam bin Ma'dikarib, may Allah be pleased with them, that the Prophet Muhammad said “Allah enjoins you to treat your mother's kindly” three times followed by “Allah enjoins you to treat your fathers kindly, Allah enjoins you to treat the closest and the next closest kindly”. This hadith emphasizes how important it is for us as Muslims to show kindness and respect towards our parents. We should always remember that they are a blessing from God who have done so much for us in life. We should strive every day to make them proud of us through our words and actions. Furthermore, we should also extend this kindness towards those around us who are close or even not so close as it will bring peace into our lives as well as theirs.
