Pride and Arrogance: A Warning from the Story of Yunus bin Matta

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) warned against arrogance and pride by reminding us of the story of Yunus bin Matta.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: The Prophet said, "No slave (of Allah) should say that I am better than Yunus bin Matta". So the Prophet mentioned his father's name with his name.

The lesson here is that no matter how great we are, we should always remain humble and remember that Allah is greater than us all. We should never think that we are better than anyone else, as this will lead to pride which can be damaging for our spiritual health.
