Sunan Ibn Majah 3269 (Book 29, Hadith 19) #32623
Eating Food with Respect

SUMMARY: It is important to not waste food and to make sure that all of it is eaten.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that the Prophet said: "When one of you eats food, let him not wipe his hand until he has licked it or has someone else to lick it".

QUICK LESSONS:
Eat with respect and mindfulness; Make sure no food is wasted; Lick your fingers after eating; Show gratitude towards Allah's blessings by not wasting any gifts He has given you .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us the importance of respecting food and not wasting it. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that when we eat, we should not wipe our hands until we have licked them or asked someone else to lick them. This means that even if there are small pieces of food left on our hands, we should still try to eat them instead of wiping them away and throwing the food away. By doing this, we can show respect for the food that has been given to us and make sure none of it goes wasted.

This hadith also teaches us about being mindful in how much food we take in order to avoid wasting any of it. We should only take as much as what can be eaten so that nothing goes uneaten or thrown away. In this way, we can show gratitude for the blessings Allah has given us by making sure none of His gifts go unappreciated or wasted.
