The Consequences of Keeping Unnecessary Dogs

SUMMARY: Keeping a dog for no purpose will lead to a deduction of one Qirat from one's good deeds each day.

It was narrated that Sufyan bin Abu Zuhair said: "I heard the Prophet say: 'Whoever keeps a dog that he does not need for farming or herding, one Qirat will be deducted from his (good) deeds each day.’"

QUICK LESSONS:
Keep dogs only when needed for farming or herding purposes.
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the consequences of keeping an unnecessary dog. According to the Prophet Muhammad, if someone keeps a dog that they do not need for farming or herding, then one qirat will be deducted from their good deeds each day. A qirat is an amount of reward or punishment that Allah gives us in return for our actions. Therefore, this hadith teaches us that we should only keep dogs if we have a purpose for them and not just as pets. We should also remember that all our actions are being recorded by Allah and He will reward us accordingly on the Day of Judgment.
