Sunan Ibn Majah 2623 (Book 21, Hadith 9) #31977
Forgiveness vs Retaliation

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that if someone is wronged, they have the choice to either forgive, take blood money or kill the perpetrator. If they choose one of these options and then kill the perpetrator afterwards, they will be punished in hell.

It was narrated from Abu Sharaih Al-Khuzai that the Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever suffers from killing or wounding, has the choice of three things, and if he wants the fourth then restrain him. He may kill (the killer), or forgive him, or take the blood money. Whoever accepts any of these (options), then kills (the killer) after that will have the fire of hell to abide therein forever".

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek justice , Show mercy , Choose one of three options given by Prophet Muhammad PBUH .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us about forgiveness and retaliation. It tells us that if someone has been wronged, they have three choices; to forgive the perpetrator, take blood money or kill them. However, if a person chooses one of these options and then kills the perpetrator afterwards, they will be punished in hell forever. This hadith also teaches us about justice and mercy as it encourages people to seek justice but also shows mercy by giving them an option to forgive instead of retaliating with violence. It is important for us to remember this lesson so we can make sure we are not only seeking justice but also showing mercy when possible.
