QUICK LESSONS:
Be honest even if you have little possessions or wealth; Respect property rights; Do not steal from anyone; Follow Islamic teachings on justice; Do not commit any act of injustice or dishonesty towards anyone else in society .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about theft and punishment for it. It was narrated by Ibn Umar that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) cut off the hand of a thief who stole a shield worth three dirhams. This shows that stealing is not tolerated in Islam and there are consequences to it. Stealing is considered to be an act of injustice and dishonesty which goes against Islamic teachings as it harms others in society without their consent or permission. The punishment for this crime was cutting off the hand of the thief as this serves as an example to others not to commit such acts again in future so that justice can prevail in society. This hadith also teaches us about being honest and truthful even if we have little possessions or wealth because Allah will reward us with more if we remain honest with our dealings with others around us.
