Repaying Debts with Promptness

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that it is wrong for a rich man to take too long to repay a debt, and if the debt is transferred to another rich man, it should be accepted.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah said: "When a rich man takes too long to repay a debt, this is wrongdoing, and if the debt is transferred to a rich man, you should accept if".
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ تَوْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ مَطْلُ الْغَنِيِّ ظُلْمٌ وَإِذَا أُحِلْتَ عَلَى مَلِيءٍ فَاتْبَعْهُ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us about the importance of repaying debts in a timely manner. It was narrated by Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah said that when a rich man takes too long to repay his debt, this is considered wrong or zulm. Furthermore, if the debt is transferred from one rich person to another, then it should be accepted without any delay. This hadith emphasizes on being honest and responsible when dealing with money matters and encourages us not to take advantage of our wealth or position in society. It also teaches us about fairness and justice as we should not delay repayment just because we are wealthy or powerful. We must remember that all wealth belongs to Allah and He will hold us accountable for how we use it in this life.
