The Unpleasantness of Taking Back Gifts

SUMMARY: Taking back a gift is not a good thing to do.

It was narrated from Ibn'Umar that the Prophet said: "The one who takes back his gift is like the dog that goes back to its vomit".

QUICK LESSONS:
Give gifts sincerely without expecting anything in return.

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that taking back a gift is not something that should be done. He used the example of a dog returning to its vomit, which is an unpleasant sight and something that should be avoided. This hadith teaches us the importance of giving gifts with sincerity and without expecting anything in return. We should also remember that if we give someone something, it is best to leave it with them as taking it back can cause hurt feelings and damage relationships.
