Avoiding Usury and Doubtful Things

SUMMARY: The last verse revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was about usury, but he passed away before explaining it. Therefore, it is advised to avoid usury and doubtful things.

It was narrated that 'Umar bin Khattab said: "The last thing to be revealed was the Verse on usury but the Messenger of Allah died before he had explained it to us. So give up usury (interest) and doubtful things".

QUICK LESSONS:
Give up usuary and doubtful things

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith discussed here is narrated by 'Umar bin Khattab who said that the last thing revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was a verse about usury. However, he passed away before explaining it in detail. Therefore, it is advised to avoid usury and doubtful things as they are not beneficial for anyone in the long run. Usury refers to any kind of interest charged on loans or debts which can be considered as an unfair practice according to Islamic teachings. Similarly, doubtful things refer to any kind of transaction which may involve some sort of risk or uncertainty such as gambling or betting which should also be avoided at all costs. This hadith serves as a reminder for Muslims that they should stay away from such practices and instead focus on doing good deeds that will benefit them in this world and the hereafter.
