Warning Against Usury

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ warned against usury and stated that there are seventy-three degrees of it.

It was narrated from 'Abdullah that the Prophet said: "There are seventy-three degrees of usury".
حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّيْرَفِيُّ أَبُو حَفْصٍ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ زُبَيْدٍ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ـ ـ قَالَ ‏ "‏ الرِّبَا ثَلاَثَةٌ وَسَبْعُونَ بَابًا

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, the Prophet (ﷺ) warns against usury and states that there are seventy-three degrees of it. Usury is a form of interest charged on borrowed money or goods which is considered to be unlawful in Islam. This hadith serves as a reminder to Muslims to stay away from any kind of usurious activities as it can lead them astray from the path of righteousness. It also teaches Muslims to be mindful about their financial dealings and not take part in any activities which involve taking advantage of others financially. Furthermore, this hadith encourages Muslims to practice justice and fairness when dealing with money matters so that they can remain within the boundaries set by Allah SWT.
