Selling What You Don't Have

SUMMARY: Do not sell something that you do not possess.

It was narrated that Hakim bin Hizam said: "I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, a man is asking me to sell him something that I do not possess; Shall I sell it to him?' He said: 'Do not sell what is not with you"'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be honest in transactions; keep your word; fulfill commitments; be truthful in dealings with others; do not lie or make false promises for sales purposes.
EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us a valuable lesson about honesty and integrity in transactions. He said that we should never sell something that we do not possess. This means that if someone asks us to buy something from them, we should only agree to the transaction if we actually have the item they are asking for. We should never make false promises or lie about having an item just to make a sale. This hadith teaches us the importance of being honest and truthful in our dealings with others, even when it comes to buying and selling items. It also reminds us of the importance of keeping our word and fulfilling our commitments when making agreements with others.
