Mixing Charity with Business Dealings

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised merchants to mix charity with their business dealings in order to avoid taking false oaths and engaging in idle talk.

It was narrated that Qais bin Abu Gharazah said: "At the time of the Messenger of Allah we used to be called brokers, but the Messenger of Allah passed by us and called by a name that was better than that. He said: 'O merchants, selling involves (false) oaths and idle talk, so mix some charity with it"'.

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us that when engaging in business, it is important to be honest and not take false oaths or engage in idle talk. He also encouraged us to mix charity with our business dealings, as this will help us stay away from dishonesty and unkind words. This hadith teaches us the importance of being honest and generous when conducting our affairs, even if it is something as simple as buying or selling goods. It reminds us that we should always strive for excellence in all aspects of life, including our financial transactions.

The Prophet Muhammad's advice was not only applicable during his time but also applies today; we should always strive for honesty and generosity when dealing with others, especially those who are less fortunate than ourselves. We can do this by donating a portion of our profits to charitable causes or by helping those who are struggling financially through donations or other forms of assistance. By doing so, we can ensure that everyone has access to the resources they need while also avoiding any dishonest practices such as taking false oaths or engaging in idle talk which could lead to disputes between parties involved in a transaction.
