Sunan Ibn Majah 2144 (Book 12, Hadith 8) #31496
Moderation in Seeking Provision

SUMMARY: Allah will provide for all of us, so we should be moderate in seeking a living and take only that which is permissible.

It was narrated from Jabir bin 'Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah said: "O people, fear Allah and be moderate in seeking a living, for no soul will die until it has received all its provision, even if it is slow in coming. So fear Allah and be moderate in seeking provision; take that which is permissible and leave that which is forbidden".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be moderate in seeking provision; take that which is permissible

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Jabir bin 'Abdullah states that Allah will provide for all of us, so we should be moderate in seeking a living and take only that which is permissible. This means that we should not seek more than what is necessary to sustain ourselves and our families. We must also stay away from anything forbidden or unlawful as it can lead to negative consequences. The Prophet Muhammad also taught us to have faith in Allah's plan for us and trust that He will provide for our needs even if it takes time. This hadith encourages us to remain patient and content with what we have while striving towards betterment within the boundaries of the law. It reminds us not to become too greedy or desperate when trying to make a living as this can lead one astray from the path of righteousness.
