Providing for Families

SUMMARY: Allah rewards those who provide for their families, even if it is not a lot.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: "A man would give his family food that was abundant and another would give his family food that was barely sufficient, then the following was revealed: 'With the Awsat of that with which you feed your families.’"(2)

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of providing for one's family. It was narrated by Ibn 'Abbas that a man would give his family food that was abundant and another would give his family food that was barely sufficient, then Allah revealed in the Quran to reward those who provide with what is sufficient and abundant. This teaches us that even if we are not able to provide our families with abundance, we will still be rewarded by Allah as long as we do our best to provide them with what is necessary. We should strive to be generous and kind towards our families and make sure they have enough resources to live comfortably. Furthermore, this hadith also reminds us of the importance of being grateful for whatever blessings we receive from Allah no matter how small they may seem.
