Sahih al-Bukhari 3285 (Book 59, Hadith 94) #3141
Distractions During Prayer

SUMMARY: When a person is praying, Satan will try to interfere and distract them from their prayer. If they forget how many rak'at they have prayed, they should perform two prostrations of Sahu.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "When the call for the prayer is pronounced, Satan takes to his heels, passing wind with noise, When the call for the prayer is finished, he comes back. And when the Iqama is pronounced, he again takes to his heels, and after its completion, he returns again to interfere between the (praying) person and his heart, saying to him'.Remember this or that thing'. till the person forgets whether he has offered three or four rak'at: so if one forgets whether he has prayed three or four rak'at, he should perform two prostrations of Sahu (ie forgetfulness).

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful during your prayers and don't let anything distract you or take away your focus on Allah SWT .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the importance of prayer and how Satan will try to interfere with it. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that when the call for prayer is made, Satan takes off running away from it. After the call for prayer has finished he comes back and when the Iqama is pronounced he runs away again but returns after its completion in order to distract people from their prayers by making them remember other things until they forget how many rak'at they have prayed. If this happens then one should perform two prostrations of Sahu in order to make up for any forgotten rak'at. This hadith teaches us that we must be mindful during our prayers and not let anything distract us or take away our focus on Allah SWT as this can lead us astray from fulfilling our religious obligations properly. It also shows us that if we do make a mistake due to distractions or forgetfulness then there are ways we can make up for it so that we don't miss out on any rewards due to negligence or lack of mindfulness during our prayers.
