Sunan Ibn Majah 1776 (Book 7, Hadith 139) #31128
Observing Etiquette During Itikaf

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his wife Aisha's practice of not entering the house except to relieve themselves while observing Itikaf.

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "I used to enter the house to relieve myself, and there was a sick person there, and I only inquired after him as I was passing through". She said: "And the Messenger of Allah would not enter the house except to relieve himself, then they were observing I’tikaf".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful of your actions, Observe proper etiquette at all times.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the etiquette that should be observed during I'tikaaf, which is a spiritual retreat where one secludes oneself in a mosque for a certain period of time to focus on worshiping Allah. The Prophet Muhammad and his wife Aisha would not enter their house except to relieve themselves while they were observing I'tikaaf. This teaches us that we should be mindful of our actions and observe proper etiquette even when we are engaging in religious activities such as I'tikaaf. We should also strive to maintain good manners at all times, regardless of our environment or situation.
