Fasting While Travelling

SUMMARY: Fasting while travelling is not an act of righteousness.

It was narrated from Ka’b bin 'Asim that the Messenger of Allah said: 'It is not an act of righteousness to fast while traveling".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ أُمِّ الدَّرْدَاءِ، عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ عَاصِمٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ ‏ "‏ لَيْسَ مِنَ الْبِرِّ الصِّيَامُ فِي السَّفَرِ

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that fasting while travelling is not an act of righteousness. This means that when a person is travelling, they are exempt from fasting and do not need to make up the days later on. This hadith teaches us to be mindful of our physical and mental health, as well as our obligations to Allah SWT. It also encourages us to be kind and understanding towards ourselves, especially during times of difficulty or hardship such as travel.
