Fasting in Extreme Heat

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Abdullah bin Rawahah were the only two people fasting on a hot day while travelling.

It was narrated that Abu Darda’ said: "We were with the Messenger of Allah on one of his journeys on a hot day, and it was extremely hot. A man would put his hand over his head because of the intense heat. No one among the people was fasting except for the Messenger of Allah and 'Abdullah bin Rawahah".

This hadith is about the importance of fasting even in extreme heat. It was narrated by Abu Darda that he was with the Messenger of Allah PBUH on one of his journeys on a hot day and it was extremely hot. Everyone else stopped fasting except for the Messenger of Allah PBUH and Abdullah bin Rawahah who continued to fast despite the intense heat. This hadith teaches us that we should not give up our religious obligations even when faced with difficult circumstances such as extreme weather conditions or any other hardships we may face in life. We should strive to remain steadfast and continue to do what is right no matter how hard it may be because this is what pleases Allah SWT most.
