The Last Words of the Prophet Muhammad

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was repeating the phrase "The prayer, and those whom your hands possess" during his last illness until he could no longer speak.

It was narrated from Umm Salamah that the Messenger of Allah used to say, during the illness that would be his last: "The prayer, and those whom your hands possess".* And he kept on saying it until his tongue could no longer utter any words.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ صَالِحٍ أَبِي الْخَلِيلِ، عَنْ سَفِينَةَ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ ـ كَانَ يَقُولُ فِي مَرَضِهِ الَّذِي تُوُفِّيَ فِيهِ ‏ "‏ الصَّلاَةَ وَمَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُكُمْ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ فَمَا زَالَ يَقُولُهَا حَتَّى مَا يَفِيضَ بِهَا لِسَانُهُ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the last words of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). During his final illness, he kept repeating a phrase which was “The prayer, and those whom your hands possess”. This phrase is an indication of how important it is to remember Allah in all aspects of life. It also shows that even in difficult times such as sickness or death, one should not forget to pray and take care of their possessions. Furthermore, this hadith teaches us that we should always be mindful of our duties towards Allah even when we are facing hardships or difficulties in life. We should never forget to pray and take care of our possessions as these are two important aspects that will help us stay connected with Allah throughout our lives.
