Sunan Ibn Majah 1288 (Book 5, Hadith 486) #30640
Encouraging Charity on Eid

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to lead the people in prayer on Eid and encourage them to give charity, especially women who would give earrings, rings and other items. He would also announce any expeditions he wanted to send out.

Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri said: "The Messenger of Allah used to go out on the day of 'Eid and lead the people in praying two Rak’ah, then he would say the Salam and stand on his two feet facing the people while they were sitting down. He would say: 'Give in charity. Give in charity.’ Those who gave most in charity were the women, (they would give) earrings and rings and things. If he wanted to send out an expedition he would mention it, otherwise he would leave".

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was known for his generosity and kindness towards others. On the day of 'Eid, he would lead the people in prayer and then stand up to address them while they were sitting down. He encouraged everyone to give charity, especially women who often gave earrings, rings or other items as a form of charity. If there was an expedition that needed sending out, he would mention it during this time as well. This hadith shows us how important it is for us to be generous with our wealth and possessions by giving charity whenever we can. It also teaches us that we should always be mindful of those less fortunate than ourselves so that we can help them in whatever way possible.
