Sunan Ibn Majah 1262 (Book 5, Hadith 460) #30614
The Sun and Moon's Eclipse

SUMMARY: The sun and moon do not become eclipsed for the death or birth of anyone, but rather when Allah manifests Himself to anything in His creation.

It was narrated that Nu’man bin Bashir said: "The sun was eclipsed at the time of the Messenger of Allah , and he came out alarmed, dragging his lower garment, until he reached the mosque. He continued to perform prayer until the eclipse was over, then he said: 'Some people claim that the sun and moon only become eclipsed because of the death of a great leader. That is not so. The sun and the moon do not become eclipsed for the death or birth of anyone. When Allah manifests Himself to anything in His creation, it humbles itself before Him.’"

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the eclipse of the sun and moon. It was narrated by Numan bin Bashir that at the time of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) the sun was eclipsed, so he went out alarmed dragging his lower garment until he reached the mosque. He continued to perform prayer until it was over, then he said that some people claim that these celestial bodies only become eclipsed because of a great leader's death or birth, but this is not true. Rather, they become eclipsed when Allah manifests Himself to anything in His creation; it humbles itself before Him. This hadith teaches us that we should always remember Allah’s greatness and power over all things in His creation; nothing happens without His will or permission. We should also remember that no one has any power over Him; He is above all things and greater than any human being who may have passed away or been born on earth.
