Leaning of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to lean on a bow when delivering speeches on the battlefield and a staff when delivering sermons on Fridays.

'Abdur-Rahman bin Sa’d bin 'Ammar bin Sa’d narrated that his father told him, from his father, from his grandfather, that when the Messenger of Allah delivered a speech on the battlefield he would do so leaning on a bow, and when he delivered a sermon on Friday, he would do so leaning on his staff.
حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ سَعْدِ بْنِ عَمَّارِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ ـ كَانَ إِذَا خَطَبَ فِي الْحَرْبِ، خَطَبَ عَلَى قَوْسٍ. وَإِذَا خَطَبَ فِي الْجُمُعَةِ، خَطَبَ عَلَى عَصًا

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the practice of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It is narrated by 'Abdur-Rahman bin Sad bin 'Ammar bin Sad that his father told him, from his father, from his grandfather, that when the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) delivered a speech on the battlefield he would do so leaning on a bow, and when he delivered a sermon on Friday, he would do so leaning on his staff. This hadith shows us how important it was for Prophet Muhammad to be humble even in times of victory or success. He did not want to show off or be boastful but instead wanted to remain humble and grounded in all situations. It also teaches us that we should always strive for humility no matter what our position is in life. We should never forget our roots and stay true to ourselves even if we are successful or powerful.
