Sahih al-Bukhari 3181 (Book 58, Hadith 23) #3040
Following Orders in Difficult Times

SUMMARY: This hadith is about Sahl bin Hunaif's experience in the battle of Abu Jandal, and his commitment to following the Prophet's orders even when it was difficult.

Narrated Al-A'mash: I asked Abu Wail, "Did you take part in the battle of Siffin?" He said, 'Yes, and I heard Sahl bin Hunaif (when he was blamed for lack of zeal for fighting) saying, "You'd better blame your wrong opinions. I wish you had seen me on the day of Abu Jandal. If I had the courage to disobey the Prophet's orders, I would have done so. We had kept out swords on our necks and shoulders, for a thing which frightened us. And we did so, we found it easier for us, except in the case of the above battle (of ours)'. "

Obey your leader even if it is difficult or frightening for you to do so

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a battle that took place between Muslims and non-Muslims during the time of Prophet Muhammad. During this battle, Sahl bin Hunaif was asked why he wasn't fighting with more enthusiasm. He responded by saying that he wished they could have seen him on the day of Abu Jandal, where they were all scared but still followed the Prophet's orders. This hadith teaches us that we should always obey our leaders even if it is difficult or frightening for us to do so. It also teaches us courage and resilience in times of difficulty, as well as loyalty to our leaders and faithfulness to God's commands.
