Seeking Refuge in Allah from Satan's Evils

SUMMARY: Seeking refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan and his madness, pride, and poetry.

It was narrated from Ibn Mas’ud that the Prophet said: "Allahumma inni a’udhu bika minash-Shaitanir-rajim, wa hamzihi wa nafkhihi wa nafthihi (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the accursed Satan, from his madness, his pride, and his poetry)".
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ فُضَيْلٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَطَاءُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السُّلَمِيِّ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ـ ـ قَالَ ‏ "‏ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ وَهَمْزِهِ وَنَفْخِهِ وَنَفْثِهِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ هَمْزُهُ الْمُوتَةُ وَنَفْثُهُ الشِّعْرُ وَنَفْخُهُ الْكِبْرُ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is narrated by Ibn Masud and it talks about seeking refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan and his evils such as madness, pride, and poetry. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to seek protection from these evils by saying “Allahumma inni audhu bika minash-Shaitanir-rajim, wa hamzihi wa nafkhihi wa nafthihi” which translates to “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the accursed Satan, from his madness, his pride, and his poetry”. This hadith teaches us that we should always turn to Allah for protection against all evil forces that may try to harm us or lead us astray. We should also strive to stay away from any kind of behavior or attitude that is associated with these evils such as arrogance or vanity. By doing so we can ensure our safety both physically and spiritually.
