Permissibility of Relieving Oneself Before Prayer

SUMMARY: It is permissible to relieve oneself before prayer if the call to prayer has already been given.

It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Arqam said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'If anyone of you needs to defecate and the immediate call to prayer (Iqamah) is given, let him start with (relieving himself)'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Prioritize health and wellbeing over anything else, fulfill religious duties with compassion towards oneself.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that it is permissible for a person to relieve themselves before prayer if the call to prayer has already been given. This means that if someone needs to use the restroom and they hear the call for prayer, they can go ahead and do so without worrying about missing out on their prayers. The Prophet Muhammad was teaching us here that we should prioritize our health and well-being over anything else, even religious obligations such as praying. He also taught us that we should not be too hard on ourselves when it comes to fulfilling our religious duties; sometimes life gets in the way and we need to take care of ourselves first.
