The Dangers of Materialism

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the importance of not being too attached to worldly possessions and instead focus on giving charity and spending time with family.

Mutarrif bin Abdullah bin Ash-Shikh-khir reported from his father, : that he went to the Prophet and he was reciting: 'The mutual rivalry (for piling up worldly things) diverts you.’ He said: "The son of Adam says: 'My wealth, my wealth.’ And do you own anything except what you give in charity, such that you’ve spent it, or what you eat, such that you’ve finished it, or you wear, such that you’ve worn it out?"

Instead, we should focus on giving charity and spending time with our families. We should remember that all our wealth will eventually be gone, either through spending or death, so it is important to enjoy what we have while we can and use it for good causes like charity.
