Divine Protection of the Prophet

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) warned Abu Jahl that if he tried to harm him, the angels would take action against him.

Ikrimah narrated from Ibn Abbas may Allah be pleased with them regarding: We will call on the guards of Hell. He said: "Abu Jahl said: 'If I see Muhammad praying, then I shall stomp upon his neck.’ So the Prophet said: 'If he does, he will be visibly seized by the angels.’"
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ الْجَزَرِيِّ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، رضى الله عنهما ‏:‏ ‏(‏ سنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ ‏)‏ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو جَهْلٍ لَئِنْ رَأَيْتُ مُحَمَّدًا يُصَلِّي لأَطَأَنَّ عَلَى عُنُقِهِ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ‏"‏ لَوْ فَعَلَ لأَخَذَتْهُ الْمَلاَئِكَةُ عِيَانًا ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ غَرِيبٌ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the divine protection of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It is narrated by Ikrimah from Ibn Abbas that Abu Jahl said he would stomp on the neck of the Prophet if he saw him praying. In response, the Prophet warned Abu Jahl that if he did so, then he would be seized by angels. This hadith teaches us that no one can harm a person who is under divine protection and guidance. It also shows us how merciful and kind-hearted our beloved prophet was even towards his enemies. He did not wish any harm to come to them but instead warned them in a gentle manner about their actions and their consequences.
