The Prophet's Simple Lifestyle

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) and his family often went without supper and ate barley bread.

Ibn 'Abbas said: " The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) would spend many consecutive nights and his family did not have supper, and most of the time their bread was barley bread".

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive for simplicity in life , Focus on spiritual growth

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith of Ibn 'Abbas tells us about the simple lifestyle of the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w). Despite being a leader of a nation and having many followers, he chose to live a humble life with his family. He would spend many consecutive nights without having supper and their bread was usually barley bread which is considered to be an inexpensive food item in comparison to other grains such as wheat or rice. This hadith teaches us that we should not be too concerned with material possessions but rather focus on our spiritual growth instead as this is what will bring us closer to Allah SWT in the end. We should also strive for simplicity in our lives so that we can focus on more important matters such as prayer and charity work instead of worrying about worldly things like money or status symbols which are ultimately fleeting anyway.
