Jami at-Tirmidhi 1332 (Book 15, Hadith 12) #26910
Helping Those in Need

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that if an Imam closes his door on someone in need, Allah will close the gates of Heaven from them.

Abul-Hasan narrated that 'Amr bin Murrah said to Mu'awiyah: "I heard the Messenger of Allah saying: 'No Imam closes his door on one in need, dire straits and poverty, except that Allah closes the gates of the Heavens from his dire straits, his needs, and his poverty'. So Mu'awiyah appointed a man to look after the needs of the people".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us about the importance of helping those who are in need. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that if an Imam or leader closes their door on someone who is poor and struggling with dire straits or poverty, then Allah will close the gates of Heaven from them. Mu'awiyah was so moved by this teaching that he appointed a man to look after the needs of people and help those who were struggling financially. This hadith encourages us to be generous and charitable towards others as it is a way for us to gain rewards from Allah SWT and open up the doors of His mercy upon us. It also teaches us not to be selfish with our wealth but rather use it for good causes such as helping those in need or donating money for charity work.
