EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of repentance and atonement for sins. It was narrated by Salamah bin Sakhr Al-Bayadi that the Prophet said, regarding someone who committed the sin of Zihar and had intercourse before performing an atonement, that they must perform one atonement. The term ‘Zihar’ refers to a form of divorce in which a husband compares his wife to his mother or any other female relative in order to separate from her without actually divorcing her. This is considered a major sin in Islam as it involves disrespecting one’s spouse and family members. Therefore, it is important for those who commit this sin to repent and seek forgiveness from Allah through prayer and good deeds such as charity or fasting. Additionally, they should also make up for their mistake by performing an atonement which can be done by freeing a slave or feeding sixty poor people if unable to do so. This hadith teaches us about the importance of repentance when we have wronged others or ourselves through our actions or words so that we can be forgiven by Allah Almighty and start anew with His mercy upon us.
