Mercy for Those Who Shave or Shorten Hair

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) showed mercy to those who shaved or shortened their hair.

Ibn Umar narrated that: The Messenger of Allah said: "May Allah have mercy upon those who shaved" saying it one or two times, then he said: "And those who shortened".
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ حَلَقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ وَحَلَقَ طَائِفَةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ وَقَصَّرَ بَعْضُهُمْ ‏.‏ قَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ ‏"‏ رَحِمَ اللَّهُ الْمُحَلِّقِينَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ مَرَّةً أَوْ مَرَّتَيْنِ ثُمَّ قَالَ ‏"‏ وَالْمُقَصِّرِينَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ وَابْنِ أُمِّ الْحُصَيْنِ وَمَارِبَ وَأَبِي سَعِيدٍ وَأَبِي مَرْيَمَ وَحُبْشِيِّ بْنِ جُنَادَةَ وَأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ ‏.‏ وَالْعَمَلُ عَلَى هَذَا عِنْدَ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ يَخْتَارُونَ لِلرَّجُلِ أَنْ يَحْلِقَ رَأْسَهُ وَإِنْ قَصَّرَ يَرَوْنَ أَنَّ ذَلِكَ يُجْزِئُ عَنْهُ ‏.‏ وَهُوَ قَوْلُ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ وَالشَّافِعِيِّ وَأَحْمَدَ وَإِسْحَاقَ

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) showed mercy and compassion to those who shaved or shortened their hair. He said "May Allah have mercy upon those who shaved" one or two times, then he said "And those who shortened". This hadith teaches us that we should show kindness and compassion towards others, regardless of what they do. We should not judge people based on their appearance, but rather treat them with respect and understanding. It also teaches us that Allah is merciful and forgiving, even if we make mistakes in our lives.
