Jami at-Tirmidhi 823 (Book 9, Hadith 16) #26389
The Practice of Tamattu in Islam

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the practice of Tamattu, which was done by the Prophet Muhammad and his companions. It also mentions that Umar bin Al-Khattab prohibited it.

Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Al-Harith bin Nawfal narrated that: He heard Sa'd bin Abi Waqas, and Ad-Dahhak bin Qais while they were mentioning Tamattu after "Umrah until Hajj. Ad-Dahhak bin Qais said: "No one does that except one who is ignorant of the order of Allah, Most High". Sa'd said: "How horrible is it what you have said O my nephew!" So Ad-Dahhak (bin Qais) said: "Indeed Umar bin Al-Khattab has prohibited that". So Sa'd said: "The Messenger of Allah did it, and we did it with him".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith discusses the practice of Tamattu in Islam. This practice was done by Prophet Muhammad and his companions but later on Umar ibn al Khattab prohibited it due to certain reasons. Thus this hadith highlights that although some practices may be permissible, they can be restricted or changed due to certain circumstances or conditions at any given time.
