The Practice of Tamattu in Islam

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the practice of Tamattu and how it was practiced by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions, and how Mu'awiyah was the first to prohibit it.

Ibn Abbas narrated: "The Messenger of Allah performed Tamattu, as did Abu Bakr, Umar and Uthman. And the first to prohibit it was Mu'awiyah".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُوسَى، مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ تَمَتَّعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ وَعُثْمَانُ وَأَوَّلُ مَنْ نَهَى عَنْهَا مُعَاوِيَةُ
