Drawing Lots for Taking Oaths

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) asked some people to take an oath and instead of them all rushing to do it, he suggested that they draw lots to decide who would take the oath first.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet asked some people to take an oath, and they hurried for it. The Prophet ordered that lots should be drawn amongst them as to who would take an oath first.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of fairness and justice in decision making. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was teaching his followers how to make decisions in a fair manner, even when it comes to taking an oath. Instead of everyone rushing forward at once, he suggested that they draw lots so that one person would be chosen randomly and fairly. This teaches us the importance of being fair and just when making decisions, as well as respecting each other’s rights. It also shows us how important it is for us to follow the teachings of our beloved Prophet ﷺ in all aspects of life.
