QUICK LESSONS:
Show respect towards elders even if they are joking around .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the laughter of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and how it was responded to by his companions. It is narrated that Ibn Kinanah b. Abbas ibn Mirdas reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ laughed and then either Abu Bakr or Umar said to him “May Allah make your teeth laugh” as a response to his laughter. This hadith shows us how much respect and love the companions had for their beloved prophet ﷺ as they responded with such a beautiful phrase in response to his laughter instead of laughing along with him which would have been more natural for them in this situation. It also teaches us that we should always show respect towards our elders even if they are laughing or joking around because it is not appropriate for us to do so in front of them out of respect for their age and status in society. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us that we should be grateful when someone expresses joy at our happiness because it shows that they care about our wellbeing and want us to be happy even if it means making themselves uncomfortable by expressing joy at something which might not be socially acceptable according to their own standards or beliefs.
