Sunan Abi Dawud 5205 (Book 43, Hadith 433) #25496
Salutations with Jews and Christians

SUMMARY: Muslims should not initiate salutations to Jews and Christians, and should force them to the narrowest part of the road when they meet.

Narrated AbuHurayrah: Suhayl ibn AbuSalih said: I went out with my father to Syria. The people passed by the cloisters in which there were Christians and began to salute them. My father said: Do not give them salutation first, for AbuHurayrah reported the Messenger of Allah as saying: Do not salute them (Jews and Christians) first, and when you meet them on the road, force them to go to the narrowest part of it.

QUICK LESSONS:
Do not initiate salutations towards non-Muslims; Respect other religions; Maintain one's own identity as a Muslim; Be polite yet firm in interactions with people from different faiths; Remember that everyone is equal before Allah SWT regardless of religious beliefs.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how Muslims should interact with non-Muslims, specifically Jews and Christians. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that Muslims should not be the first to greet or salute a Jew or Christian, but if they meet on a road, then Muslims must force them to go to the narrowest part of it. This hadith teaches us that we must respect other religions but also maintain our own identity as Muslims. We can do this by being polite but firm in our interactions with people from other faiths. We must remember that we are all equal in front of Allah SWT regardless of our religious beliefs.
