Sunan Abi Dawud 5152 (Book 43, Hadith 380) #25443
Kindness to Neighbours

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the importance of being kind to one's neighbours, as demonstrated by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) who was commended by Gabriel for his neighbourly behaviour.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-'As: Mujahid said that Abdullah ibn Amr slaughtered a sheep and said: Have you presented a gift from it to my neighbour, the Jew, for I heard the Messenger of Allah say: Gabriel kept on commending the neighbour to me so that I thought he would make an heir?

QUICK LESSONS:
Be kind and generous towards your neighbours
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of being kind and generous to one's neighbours. It is narrated that Abdullah ibn Amr slaughtered a sheep and asked if a gift from it was presented to his Jewish neighbour, as he heard the Prophet Muhammad say that Gabriel kept on commending him for his neighbourly behaviour. This shows us how important it is to be kind and generous towards our neighbours, no matter what their religion or background may be. We should strive to treat our neighbours with respect and kindness, just as we would like them to do unto us. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us that even small acts of kindness can make a difference in someone else’s life; even something as simple as giving a gift can bring joy into someone else’s life.
