Sunan Abi Dawud 4912 (Book 43, Hadith 140) #25203
The Importance of Greeting Fellow Believers

SUMMARY: It is not permissible for a believer to stay away from another believer for more than three days. If they meet and greet each other, they will both be rewarded, but if one does not reply, the one who initiated the greeting will be absolved of any sin.

Narrated AbuHurayrah: The Prophet said: It is not allowable for a believer to keep from a believer for more than three days. If three days pass, he should meet him and give him a salutation, and if he replies to it they will both have shared in the reward; but if he does not reply he will bear his sin (according to Ahmad's version) and the one who gives the salutation will have come forth from the sin of keeping apart.

QUICK LESSONS:
Exchange salutations with fellow believers after 3 days have passed

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith emphasizes the importance of greeting fellow believers. It teaches us that it is not permissible to stay away from another believer for more than three days as this can lead to a lack of connection between them. If we do meet and greet each other, we will both receive a reward in return. However, if one does not reply to the salutation given by another person, then the person who initiated it will be absolved from any sin that may have been caused by staying apart from each other. This hadith also encourages us to maintain strong relationships with our fellow believers and reminds us that even small acts such as exchanging salutations can bring great rewards in return.
