Choosing Friends Wisely

SUMMARY: One should be careful when choosing friends, as their beliefs and values will influence one's own.

Narrated AbuHurayrah: The Prophet said: A man follows the religion of his friend; so each one should consider whom he makes his friend.

QUICK LESSONS:
Take time to consider who you make your friends; ensure that they are people who will help you stay on the right path in life; remember that you may become like those whom you befriend if they are good people.

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that the people we choose to be our friends can have a great impact on our lives. Our friends’ beliefs and values can influence our own, so it is important to choose them wisely. We should take time to consider who we make our friends, and ensure that they are people who will help us stay on the right path in life. It is also important for us to remember that we may become like those whom we befriend; if they are good people, then this will benefit us greatly in both this world and the next.

On the other hand, if someone chooses bad company then it could lead them astray from their faith or cause them harm in some way. Therefore, it is essential for each of us to think carefully about who we spend time with and make sure that they are good people whose company will benefit rather than harm us in any way.
