Sahih al-Bukhari 2587 (Book 51, Hadith 21) #2475
Being Just and Fair to All Children

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the importance of being just and fair to all children.

Narrated 'Amir: I heard An-Nu'man bin Bashir on the pulpit saying, "My father gave me a gift but 'Amra bint Rawaha (my mother) said that she would not agree to it unless he made Allah's Messenger as a witness to it. So, my father went to Allah's Messenger and said, 'I have given a gift to my son from 'Amra bint Rawaha, but she ordered me to make you as a witness to it, O Allah's Messenger !' Allah's Messenger asked, 'Have you given (the like of it) to everyone of your sons?' He replied in the negative. Allah's Messenger said, 'Be afraid of Allah, and be just to your children'. My father then returned and took back his gift".

QUICK LESSONS:
Treat your children fairly no matter what gifts or privileges you give them; everyone should receive equal treatment in order for justice to prevail
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of justice and fairness when it comes to raising children. It was narrated by An-Nu'man bin Bashir who said that his father gave him a gift but his mother refused to agree unless Allah's Messenger was made a witness. His father then went to Allah's Messenger and asked if he had given the same gift to all his sons. Allah's Messenger replied that he should be afraid of God and be just with his children. This teaches us that we should treat our children fairly no matter what gifts or privileges we give them; everyone should receive equal treatment in order for justice to prevail. We must also remember that God is watching us at all times so we must strive for justice in our dealings with others as well as our own family members.
