Plundering and Belonging to the Community

SUMMARY: Plundering is not allowed, but if it is done conspicuously, the person does not belong to the Prophet's community.

Narrated Jabir ibn Abdullah: The Prophet said: Cutting of hand is not to be inflicted on one who plunders, but he who plunders conspicuously does not belong to us.
حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ جَابِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ لَيْسَ عَلَى الْمُنْتَهِبِ قَطْعٌ وَمَنِ انْتَهَبَ نُهْبَةً مَشْهُورَةً فَلَيْسَ مِنَّا

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith talks about plundering and belonging to the Prophet's community. It states that plundering is not allowed, however if it is done in a conspicuous manner then that person does not belong to the Prophet's community. This hadith teaches us that we should be careful of our actions as they can have consequences on our belongingness in a certain group or society. We should always strive for good deeds and stay away from any kind of wrongdoings as they can lead us away from being part of a righteous society or group.
