This hadith is about a man named Ma'iz who committed adultery four times and was brought before the Prophet (ﷺ). The punishment for such an act in those days was stoning to death. However, the Prophet showed mercy by suggesting that if someone had covered up his sin by covering him with their garment, it would have been better for them. This teaches us that we should always try our best to cover up other people's sins instead of exposing them or punishing them harshly. We should also show mercy and compassion towards others even when they make mistakes as this is what Allah expects from us as believers.
