Sunan Abi Dawud 4259 (Book 37, Hadith 20) #24549
How to Act During Commotions Before the Last Hour

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the commotions that will occur before the Last Hour and how one should act during them.

Narrated AbuMusa al-Ash'ari: The Messenger of Allah said: Before the Last Hour there will be commotions like pieces of a dark night in which a man will be a believer in the morning and an infidel in the evening, or a believer in the evening and infidel in the morning. He who sits during them will be better than he who gets up and he who walks during them is better than he who runs. So break your bows, cut your bowstrings and strike your swords on stones. If people then come in to one of you, let him be like the better of Adam's two sons.

QUICK LESSONS:
Sit during fitnahs instead of standing up; Walk instead of running; Show kindness even if someone has wronged you; Break bows; Cut bowstrings; Strike swords on stones; Be like the better son of Adam’s two sons by showing mercy and kindness despite being wronged yourself .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of a time before the Last Hour when there will be commotions or fitnah like pieces of a dark night. During this time people's beliefs may change from morning to evening or vice versa. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ advised that it is better for one to sit during these times than stand up and walk than run away. He also advised that bows should be broken and swords should be struck on stones if people come in front of you. He then said to act like the better of Adam's two sons which means to show kindness and mercy even if someone has wronged you in some way as Allah SWT loves those who are merciful and kind even when they have been wronged themselves.
