Sunan Abi Dawud 3941 (Book 31, Hadith 16) #24231
Emancipation of Slaves

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the emancipation of slaves and the extent to which it should be done.

The tradition mentioned above has also been transmitted by Ibn 'Umar to the same effect through a different chain of narrators. Nafi' sometimes said: He will be emancipated to the extent of the share which he emancipated, and sometimes he did not say these words.

QUICK LESSONS:
Freeing slaves in equal portions or shares as an act of kindness and mercy.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith talks about the emancipation of slaves. It states that a slave should be emancipated to the extent of their share. This means that if a person has multiple slaves, they should free them all in equal portions or shares. The hadith also mentions that Nafi' sometimes said that he will be emancipated to the extent of his share and sometimes he did not say these words. This implies that freeing a slave is an act of kindness and mercy, and it does not have to be done in equal portions or shares for each slave.
