Money Exchange Advice

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) advised to take what was from hand to hand and leave what was on credit when it comes to money exchange.

Narrated Sulaiman bin Abu Muslim: I asked Abu Minhal about money exchange from hand to hand. He said, "I and a partner of mine bought something partly in cash and partly on credit". Al-Bara' bin 'Azib passed by us and we asked about it. He replied, "I and my partner Zaid bin Al-Arqam did the same and then went to the Prophet and asked him about it. He said, 'Take what was from hand to hand and leave what was on credit'. "

QUICK LESSONS:
Be honest in financial dealings with others; Pay back any debts owed; Accept payment in full at once rather than taking part of it now and expecting more later on; Be mindful of your own financial dealings with others so as not be put into a difficult situation where you are unable or unwilling pay back any debts owed due unforeseen circumstances or lack funds available at time repayment .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the advice given by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ regarding money exchange. It is narrated that Sulaiman bin Abu Muslim asked Abu Minhal about money exchange from hand to hand. He replied that he and his partner bought something partly in cash and partly on credit. Then Al-Bara' bin 'Azib passed by them and they asked him about it. He said that he and his partner Zaid bin Al Arqam did the same thing before going to ask the Prophet ﷺ for advice. The Prophet ﷺ then advised them to take what was from hand to hand and leave what was on credit. This hadith teaches us that we should be careful when exchanging money with others, especially if it involves a loan or debt of some kind, as we should only accept payment in full at once rather than taking part of it now and expecting more later on. We should also be mindful of our own financial dealings with others so as not to put ourselves in a difficult situation where we are unable or unwilling to pay back any debts owed due to unforeseen circumstances or lack of funds available at the time of repayment.
