Sunan Abi Dawud 3585 (Book 25, Hadith 15) #23875
Deciding Cases without Revelation

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ gave his opinion in cases where no revelation had been sent down to him.

Umm Salamah reported the Prophet as saying when two men were disputing over inheritance and old things: I decide between you on the basis of my opinion in cases about which no revelation has been sent down to me.

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek guidance from Allah & His Messenger , Be fair & just while making decisions , Base decisions on wisdom & justice
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet's decision-making process when two people were disputing over inheritance and old things. He decided between them based on his own opinion as there was no revelation sent down to him regarding the matter. This teaches us that we should always seek guidance from Allah and His Messenger in matters of dispute or disagreement. We should also strive to be fair and just when making decisions for ourselves or others, even if there is no clear guidance from Allah or His Messenger. We should also remember that our decisions must be based on wisdom and justice rather than personal bias or prejudice.
