Sunan Abi Dawud 3319 (Book 22, Hadith 78) #23609
Repentance Through Charity

SUMMARY: Repentance requires one to leave their home and give away a portion of their property as charity.

Narrated Ka'b ibn Malik: Ka'b ibn Malik said to AbuLubabah; or someone else whom Allah wished; or to the Prophet : To make my repentance complete I should depart from the house of my people in which I fell into sin, and that I should divest myself of all my property as sadaqah (alms). He said: A third (of your property) will be sufficient for you.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of repentance and how it should be done. It is narrated by Ka'b ibn Malik, who said that in order to make his repentance complete, he should leave his home and give away a portion of his property as charity. This shows us that repentance is not just about saying sorry for our wrongdoings but also taking action to make up for them. We must be willing to sacrifice something in order to truly repent and show Allah that we are sincere in our intentions. Furthermore, this hadith teaches us the importance of charity; even if we have little, we can still give away some of it as sadaqah or alms so that others may benefit from it too.
