Sunan Abi Dawud 3288 (Book 22, Hadith 47) #23578
The Power of Vows

SUMMARY: Making a vow can bring about something that Allah has already decreed for a person, and it can also draw out something from a miser.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Messenger of Allah as saying: A vow does not provide for the son of Adam anything which I did not decree for him, but a vow draws it. A Divine decree is one which I have destined, it is extracted from a miser. He is given what he was not given before.

QUICK LESSONS:
Make wise use of vows/nadhrs; Be generous with your blessings; Follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad PBUH .

EXPLANATIONS:
A hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah states that making a vow or nadhr in Arabic can bring about something that Allah has already decreed for a person. It is like an extra push to make sure the decree comes true. Additionally, it can draw out something from someone who is miserly or bakhil in Arabic. This means that if someone is not willing to give away what they have been blessed with, making a vow may help them open up and give away what they have been blessed with. This hadith teaches us the power of vows and how we should use them wisely as they are powerful tools to get things done. We should also be generous with our blessings and not be too stingy when it comes to giving away what we have been given by Allah SWT.
